Virginia Gun Laws

My brother-n-law just moved to Virginia and his coworker said that he has to register his pistol. Is this true? He is now in northern VA and a first time gun owner, so he is at wits end. Any advise or direction to another thread would help.

Virginia91 nailed it.

Even in Maryland, you do not have to register firearms that are brought into the state as long as they are not machine guns.

I don't think I'd do that until I got a Virginia driver's license...
